Scar revisions
Scar revision refers to a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of a scar by virtue of excising the existing scar and repairing it in a more favorable manner. Not all scars are amenable to revision. Those that are widened, thickened (raised), depressed, or have discoloration can be improved through a revision. And despite what claims are often made by companies selling scar products, scars cannot be eliminated completely – only made less conspicuous. Some scars can cause functional restriction and can be considered contractures if they limit the normal motion of an area of the body. The goal for scar revision is different in these cases – to remove the restriction (contracture) by lengthening the scar.
